Outdoor Adventures

1. Alpine Slide at Park City Mountain - Kids of all ages love this gravity-powered ride down the mountain. Owen's favorite thing in town.

2. Family biking on the Rail Trail - Flat, paved, runs out toward Heber. Ashley and I walk the lower part on Tuesdays after her yoga class.

3. Hiking to Bloods Lake - Moderate 2.8-mile round-trip with a gorgeous alpine lake payoff. Get there early - the lot only holds about 40 cars.

4. Fly fishing on the Provo River - Several outfitters run family-friendly guided trips. Pack polarized sunglasses for spotting fish.

5. Stand-up paddleboarding at Jordanelle Reservoir - Calm waters and mountain views. Heads up - mosquitoes at Jordanelle in July are a real situation. Bring repellent.

In-Town Activities

6. Park City Museum - Housed in the old city jail. Genuinely interesting on the mining history.

7. Main Street shopping - Art galleries, candy shops, boutiques.

8. Wednesday Park City Farmers Market - Real Utah farmers, peaches and corn that will ruin you for grocery store produce. At the Silver King / First Time Lift parking lot at PCMR. Y'all, I cannot stress how good those August peaches are.

9. Alpine Coaster - A thrilling ride on rails down the mountainside.

10. Utah Olympic Park - Tour the 2002 Winter Olympics venues and try the zipline.

Water Fun

11. Homestead Crater - Swim in a 90-96°F natural hot spring inside a 55-foot limestone dome. Genuinely magical.

12. Jordanelle State Park Beach - Sandy shores with lifeguards in summer.

13. Tubing on the Weber River - A lazy float perfect for hot summer days. Bring mineral sunscreen for water activities.

Unique Experiences

14. Hot air balloon rides - See the Wasatch from above at sunrise.

15. Horseback riding - Several ranches offer scenic trail rides for families.

16. Ziplining at Utah Olympic Park - Soar above the ski jumps from the 2002 Olympics.

17. Go-karts - Fast-paced fun for older kids and adults.

18. Woodward Park City - Indoor trampolines, skateboarding, action sports year-round. Saved at least three rainy afternoons for us last summer.

Arts and Culture

19. Kimball Art Center - Family art workshops and rotating exhibitions. The Creation Station tent at the August Kimball Arts Festival is a top-five Park City kid experience.

Park Silly Sunday Market on Main once the snow melts. Local honey, kids playing in fountains, the kind of summer Sunday that grounds you.

20. Egyptian Theatre - Live performances in a beautifully restored historic theater.

21. Park Silly Sunday Market - Live music, art, food trucks, kids' zone. Take breaks for festival weekends though - they black out a few July and August Sundays.

Day Trips

22. Mirror Lake Highway - Scenic drive through the Uintas with picnic spots and short hikes. Bring a portable picnic blanket for lakeside lunches.

23. Timpanogos Cave National Monument - Guided cave tours that kids find genuinely fascinating.

24. Antelope Island State Park - See wild bison roaming the shores of the Great Salt Lake. About 2 hours each way - worth it.

25. Midway's Swiss Days - A charming Labor Day festival celebrating Swiss heritage with food, crafts, and music. Bring a reusable water bottle for everyone - hydration makes a huge difference at this altitude. Comfortable hiking shoes are non-negotiable for the trails. Always pack a compact first aid kit - with kids you never know. A pair of kids headphones for travel days.

Two Real Park City Warnings

One: MOOSE on the trails. CAPS LOCK serious. Round Valley, Mid Mountain, even Lost Prospector. Give a moose 50 yards minimum, never get between cow and calf, do not be a dummy.

Two: a lot of restaurants close on Mondays. Plan your dining around that. And the dryness up here will absolutely chew through your kid's lips and skin in 24 hours - lotion AND lip balm in every bag. I cannot stress this enough.
