The Best Park City Playgrounds and Parks for Kids

Park City's Play Spaces

Listen, sometimes kids just need to run around and burn off whatever they ate at lunch. Park City has some genuinely excellent parks and playgrounds that provide the perfect break from structured activities. Y'all, here are our favorites - tested by Hazel (8) and Owen (5) and refined over nearly two decades of trying to keep small humans entertained at altitude.

City Park

Right by Main Street in Old Town. The hub of family activity. Modern, well-maintained playground with separate zones for toddlers and older kids. In summer, the splash pad is a lifesaver on hot afternoons. Also a skate park, basketball courts, and a big grassy field for running around. Bonus: free Wednesday concerts at City Park - bring a blanket, NOT a chair (chairs are not allowed). Bring sunscreen - the Utah sun at altitude is no joke.

Rotary Park

A real local-secret tucked into the Prospector neighborhood. Great playground surrounded by trees. In winter the gentle hill next to the playground is perfect for toddler-friendly sledding. Less crowded than City Park. Ashley brings her nephew here when she is babysitting and texts me halfway through to come hang out.

Willow Creek Park

Near Kimball Junction. Large playground, covered pavilion (great for birthday parties), paved walking paths. Open fields are perfect for kite flying, frisbee, or just letting little ones run. Pack a portable picnic blanket for a family lunch in the grass. Owen had his 4th birthday party here.

Round Valley

Not a traditional playground, but Round Valley's trail system is a massive open space perfect for family adventures. Wide rolling trails, great for bikes, running, or exploring nature. In winter, it is the cross-country and snowshoeing move.

One Real Mountain Warning

Round Valley is also where MOOSE wander down from the high country - especially summer mornings and fall. CAPS LOCK serious. Give a moose 50 yards minimum, do not let kids run ahead on blind corners, and if a bull is on the trail in front of you, turn around. I cannot stress this enough. Do not be a dummy.

Basin Recreation Fieldhouse

When weather refuses to cooperate, the Basin Recreation Fieldhouse has indoor courts, a climbing wall, and fitness facilities. Day passes available for visitors. The great rainy-day or extreme-cold-day option for burning energy - and y'all, the dryness up here can drop the temperature by 30 degrees the second the sun goes behind a cloud. Bring a reusable water bottle for everyone - hydration makes a huge difference with kids at this altitude. Always pack a compact first aid kit - with kids you never know. A pair of kids headphones for travel days. We swear by packing cubes to keep the family organized in a tight condo closet.
